Blog Post Week 4

The biggest area of growth I have experienced so far as a Vivero fellow is having the responsibility to work independently on a project. I have to make sure I write down the documentation, schedule a meeting with the project lead, and make sure I show up on time, set goals with them depending on the project, and then I have to execute the decisions taken to create progress on the project.

There are a few areas of weakness for me as a Vivero that I am excited to continue improving. One of them is time management, where I experience one of the biggest troubles because sometimes I lose track of time with certain things, or mess up the time for when a meeting is happening. For this reason, I have been incorporating all the Vivero work into my personal calendar, so that I can have a reference for when I need to attend specific meetings or meet certain deadlines by a specific time. Adding Vivero to my personal calendar has allowed me to stay more on top of the time in which I need to have certain tasks done.

My favorite things to learn as a Vivero Fellow so far are the different tools we have learned during the training. I enjoy exploring new tools or revisiting past ones to enhance my skills and knowledge in the digital humanities. I enjoy looking for inspiration for projects and thinking about how our project could fit into the “model” that we are looking at, or make it even better. I also really enjoy project planning, setting specific goals for the week (or weeks), and accomplishing them on time before the next meeting. I really enjoy setting a goal or creating processes for work and then executing them. It is really nice to cross out things from my to-do list! Regarding specific tools, my favorite ones thus far have been WordPress and StoryMaps, for the flexibility of their layout.

I want to become a better web developer and be able to create a functional, accessible, and also nice-looking website. For this reason, I would like to develop skills in Elementor, especially since the project for this year will be on WordPress.

What I want to do first is to become more proficient in Elementor, because I need to enhance my skills for web design, since it is something that I find really curious about learning. I want to create an excellent final product, not only for the project leads, but because this will be a website that will be useful for my peers at Grinnell, even after I leave Grinnell. For that reason, I am excited to continue working on developing those skills, alongside working on my time-management skills.
