March Training – Elementor and Accessibility

During this month, I focused a lot of my work on Elementor and WordPress. I wanted to gain a better understanding of how the features of WordPress, and more specifically Elementor, could be helpful in making the website of DASO (Digital Accessibility for Student Organizations) much more accessible to anyone who needs to access the site. Therefore, I created test pages to see and experiment with what the user of the site would observe in terms of content and its layout.

Furthermore, I worked on experimenting with different design layouts, such as different templates, and finally chose the one that looked most appropriate based on the information I have acquired over the past few months while working on the project and immersing myself into the knowledge of digital accessibility. I also tested out accessibility tools within Elementor, which I found very helpful since Elementor flags the multiple mistakes one has made in a page and provides details about how this mistake could be improved to make it accessible.

Finally, the most important takeaway from this training was realizing that accessibility is not something that is incorporated into the website after the final product, but rather it is something that must be consistently worked on since the beginning of the digital project.
